This was an issue before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Tabletop Simulator mod was a godsend.
I am one of the many who purchase every single Arkham Horror LCG release (including novellas, playmats, etc.) but struggle to have time to physically get together with my friends to play (especially since many of them do not live in the same town as me). While I understand that you have every right to protect your Intellectual Property, this decision seems incredibly ill-timed considering the state of the world. I am writing this to address the situation which has arisen in regards to the removal of The Super Complete Edition of Arkham Horror from Tabletop Simulator. I hope it isn't too mean, but I am saddened and passionate about this community. Idk if I sent it to the right place, but this is what I sent them.
And while I would miss never having those slices of cardboard, I can live without them if it means cutting off a company that acts like this toward its most ardent fans. I don't even need a physical product my time over the pandemic with Tabletop Sim has given me a deep appreciation for playing the game digitally. I don't want to give *them* my money anymore I want it to go to the people who do the design and storytelling and art. Even the parts that are Conan the Barbarian are still public domain. Design a unique card back and format (since that's where most of the copyright comes from, along with the specific pieces of art on cards).Īfter all, the Mythos is all public domain stuff. Like, we start a Patreon, put the $5-15 we were gonna put in *anyway* to buy the new pack, and use that cash to hire the developers, and any other talented content creators, to continue to pump out great scenarios and campaigns.

I've got this idea that I'm still workshopping in my head, and discussing with a legal professional friend of mine, but what would everyone think about crowdfunding Arkham? Which is perhaps a bit melodramatic, but I think it gets the point across. Someone who used to buy every Arkham Horror scenario The community for these games, built not only over online forums, chat rooms and podcasts, but especially also over Tabletop Simulator, has been essential for the enjoyment of your game for many people. To teach the game to new players that live on different continents. To play fan-made scenarios and expansions, to come together as a community worldwide and share our passion for your games.

Not only that, but those mods allowed us to play when we could not meet in person. We are living under a pandemic and you are taking away the only means for us to still play with friends. I understand that you have to protect your IP, but this is supremely ill-timed. During the current worldwide crisis, when many of us can't even leave our homes, much less see our friends, playing the games made by your company -games we greatly enjoy, that we have bought every new release for, at great cost - online has been one of the few distractions we still had. Just today, we became aware that the games we love to play, made by Fantasy Flight Games, have been taken down from the Steam Workshop on Tabletop Simulator. Perhaps they are still subscribed to it and have it available in-game even if they can no longer see it on the workshop? I have no idea how this works. :PĮdit: When the item was taken off the Workshop, its supposedly only visible to me through the steam interface, but the item stats still show the 56k subscribers to the mod. I don't want my steam account which I've had for over 15 years to get wiped. In fact, would not be surprised to see people re-host it on workshop, I will have no hand in that of course. The mod, much like the Hydra, cannot be killed. None of the files used to build the ingame assets have been taken down, all Asmodee has done is removed easy Workshop access to the mod.Įven if they did get steam to delete my steam cloud hosted files, other users have backed the entire content of those files with the TSS backup tool, and could jsut as easily re-host it with a click of a button in TTS. As long as you have a save of the latest version, you can still play it as usual.
